Tattoo Aftercare:
- Leave bandage on for 2 hours.
- DO NOT apply vaseline, lanolin or petroleum based products to tattooed area.
- DO NOT expose tattoo to direct sunlight, swim or soak in a sauna or bathtub for 2 weeks.
- Be sure that clothing touching the tattoo is clean and soft.
Cleaning Procedure:
- Thoroughly wash hands with antibacterial soap.
- Once tattoo is ready to be exposed, remove bandage. (NEVER REBANDAGE TATTOO.)
- Wash it carefully with Dial antibacterial soap in COLD WATER.
- Gently apply soap with fingers (NEVER USE A CLOTH) to remove surface blood.
- Rinse with COLD WATER then pat dry with a soft paper towel.
- Wait about 5 to 10 minutes for the tattoo to completely dry.
- Gently and sparingly apply a THIN LAYER of A&D ointment. A&D ointment keeps the tattoo from drying and the skin area soft and moist. Always use it sparingly. Too much prevents the tattoo/skin from breathing and can cause leaching of the colors. If this happens DISCONTINUE use, wash the tattoo, pat dry and consult your artist.
- Repeat ointment process only 3 to 4 times for the next 7 days.
What's normal:
- After 5 to 7 days the tattoo may start to feel like a sunburn.
- It may start to scab. DO NOT pick or peel the skin away. Let it fall off NATURALLY during washing or ointment application.
- The colors may fade during this process but will remain when healing is complete.
Piercing Aftercare:
- Never touch the pierced area or the jewlery with dirty hands. This is to avoid infection.
- Do not use alcohol or peroxide because they can dry your piercing and hinder healing.
- Do not overclean your piercing, this will irritate it and delay your healing.
- Avoid oral contact, rough play or contact with other people's body fluids during the healing process.
- Avoid sleeping on or hanging things from your piercing during healing.
- Avoid submerging piercing in pools, lakes, jacuzzis or bathtubs. (They may harbor bacteria.) Taking a shower is safer.
- Wash hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap and hot water before touching piercing or jewlery.
- Prepare the area for cleaning by rinsing with warm water on a cotton swab to remove crust built up around or on the jewlery. NEVER USE YOUR FINGERNAILS.
Cleaning procedure for 3 times a day:
- Apply a small amount of soap and water to swab, then apply swab to area. Gently rotate the jewlery back and forth a few times to work the cleanser inside. (You don't need to rotate the jewlery the first few cleanings.)
- Allow the cleanser to work in for a minute.
- Rinse the area thoroughly under running water, while rotating the jewlery back and forth to completely remove the cleanser from the inside and outside of the piercing.
- Gently pat dry with disposable paper products. (DO NOT USE A TOWEL, TOWELS CAN HARBOR BACTERIA.)
What's normal:
- Healing can take up to 4 to 6 weeks.
- Bleeding, bruising, discoloration and/or swelling are common.
- Some tenderness, discomfort or stinging in the area of the piercing is normal.
- Secretion of fluid that contains blood plasma, lymph and dead cells is normal. It is fairly liquid, whitish-yellow in color and forms a crust on the jewlery at the openings of the piercing. This is not pus, it indicates a healing piercing.
- Once healed your piercing may secrete a semi-solid white substance. This is not pus, it indicates a healed piercing.
- Keep cleaning the piercing during the entire initial healing time, even if the piercing is healed.
- Some tightness is normal. Do not expect jewlery to swing freely even after the piercing is healed.
- In the event the piercing drains a thick pus discharge and you have an infection, YOU MUST KEEP THE JEWLERY IN. If the jewlery is removed, the hole can close in the abscess.
